Participant reviews

Reviews below reflect a mix of programme types, with dates from the past two months. Names are used with permission.

Khun Siripon Phanichayakul

Bangkok, Finance manager (retired) — Reading Long-Term Returns

"I spent thirty years working in finance and still found the sessions useful. It is one thing to work with return data professionally. It is another to sit quietly and read a multi-decade return chart from the perspective of your own household — not your employer's portfolio. That reframing was genuinely new for me."

Khun Thitiporn Kaewmanee

Nonthaburi, Small business owner — The Conversation with the Bank

"My bank RM is very friendly, which made it hard to say no. What the workshop gave me was specific language — not rude, not confrontational — just clear. The preparation card has been to three actual bank appointments with me since. It changes the dynamic of the meeting considerably when you walk in with your questions already written down."

Khun Wanchai Apichariyakul

Bangkok, Civil engineer — Year-by-Year Retirement

"The retirement template is the thing I keep coming back to. I have been meaning to think about my retirement decade properly for years, but never sat down to do it in any structured way. The four sessions gave me the structure, and the facilitator's attention to each person's specific situation meant the template actually reflects my household, not a generic example."

Khun Nattaporn Phromsombat

Bangkok, Secondary school principal — Reading Long-Term Returns

"I have attended financial seminars before and usually felt talked at. This was different — the sessions were small enough that the facilitator noticed when I was uncertain about something and took the time to work through it. I left with a reference card I actually use, rather than a folder of slides I would never open again."

Khun Ratchanok Thitiworakul

Pathum Thani, HR Director — The Conversation with the Bank

"The session helped me identify a pattern I had not noticed — that my relationship manager's enthusiasm for certain products correlates with the time of quarter. Having the preparation card changed two conversations I had in March. I declined two product recommendations I would probably have agreed to before the workshop."

Khun Charuwan Buakaew

Bangkok, Pharmacist — Year-by-Year Retirement

"I am 47 and the question of when exactly I can stop working has been vague in my mind for a decade. After four sessions, it is no longer vague. The template maps each year from age 57 to 70, with my Social Security timing, my provident fund, and a household budget column. It is not a prediction — the facilitator was careful to say that — but it is a clear picture I can update as things change."

In More Depth

Three participant journeys

These accounts are longer than typical reviews. They describe the situation a participant came in with, how the programme addressed it, and what changed as a result.

PJ

Khun Prapas Jantharat, Bangkok — Attended Reading Long-Term Returns, then Year-by-Year Retirement

Starting point

Prapas, 52, had a provident fund accumulated over 25 years but found himself unable to assess whether it was sufficient. He was attending regular bank seminars but felt they consistently ended with a product recommendation rather than clarity. He was unsure how to read the return projections his bank provided.

What changed

After Reading Long-Term Returns, he understood why his bank's projected returns looked different from historical SET data — and what those differences implied. After completing the Retirement programme four months later, he had a year-by-year document that included his provident fund alongside his Social Security timeline.

His assessment

"I now have a document I made, with a facilitator, rather than a document a bank made for me. The difference is that I understand mine. I can also update it when things change, which I have done once already."

ML

Khun Malinee Luangsri, Bangkok — Attended The Conversation with the Bank

Starting point

Malinee, 44, had a significant amount in fixed deposits that her relationship manager had been encouraging her to diversify into structured products. She found the meetings stressful — she was not sure whether the advice was good, but felt unable to evaluate it or push back effectively.

What changed

The workshop gave her three specific things: a list of questions to ask before considering any product; language to use when she needed more time; and an understanding of what a product's fee structure looks like in a bank prospectus. She described the preparation card as "like having a co-pilot in the meeting."

Her assessment

"I have now declined the structured product twice. Calmly, with a reason. My relationship manager was surprised the first time but respectful. I feel like I'm in the conversation rather than being managed through it."

SA

Khun Suchada Adulphan, Nonthaburi — Attended all three programmes over two years

Starting point

Suchada, 48, had a good household income and a clear desire to understand her financial situation — but no reliable source of education that addressed her specific circumstances. She felt that online financial content was either too basic or written for investors in other countries.

What changed

Over two years, she attended all three programmes in sequence. She describes the combination as "building a full picture" — the returns programme gave her context for market data; the bank programme changed how she approaches meetings; the retirement programme gave her a personal document she continues to update.

Her assessment

"I am more financially literate than I was two years ago, and not because I read more articles. Because I sat in a room with people in similar situations and a facilitator who knew the Thai system. That is a different kind of learning."
